Naronian Spear

Description

The Naronian spear seems like - for the unwary opponent- as a most flawed piece of craftsmanship. The hollowed bowl-like design at the base of the blade is very brittle and often snaps right of when used. Even so, the imperial army seems very anxious about collecting the broken or dropped weapons when a battle is over. Few enemies of the empire even cares to investigate the matter...
The truth is that the Naronian spear is a very versatile weapon. In the training and molding imperial recruits, the spear are the first weapon they learn to master. Fist they learn how to carry it, then they learn how to strike with it, everything without breaking the spearpoint. It aquires much skill to use this spear properly. Lastly they leard to use the spear effecively while also hiding their special technique. For any one else, it just looks like ordinary thrusts and strikes. With that said, if the spear would fall in untrained hands, it would hardly be very effective.
Another truth about the spear is that when thrown, the head will break automatically as soon as it has to hold the weight of the shaft. That makes it - pretty much as the pilum in our world - more or less useless and difficult to throw back.
There's also secrets hidden within the shaft of the spear. The "tang" of both the tip and the counterweight (in the opposite end) are actyally hidden blades, secured by three wooden pegs. If the spear would break beyond repain during a long time mission, the pegs can be remooved and in stead of a broken spear, you have two close range weapons.

This is just a skets to explain some designs I have in mind for the army in my comic Droran. Feel free to comment or leave some constructive chritique. It's allways appreciated.

And please respect that this is my original design. Don't use or copy. Thanks.

I stil don't get why you would design a weapon so it can easily break? That there are some flaws with each tool, i understand that ,but this seems like a major one.
